A regional nonprofit extends quality care in a beautiful, versatile setting

Northern Illinois Hospice has delivered compassionate end-of-life care in the Rockford, Illinois region for over 40 years. The organization’s continued growth in services required an expanded facility to accommodate its administrative, clinical, and therapeutic services.

In 2017, Northern Illinois Hospice purchased a vacant building that was originally segmented into four office spaces. Each space had its own distinct mix of dated materials and deferred maintenance. Our aim was to renovate the building to deliver one cohesive facility.

A space for everyone

The large, renovated facility offers multiple programming opportunities. Studio GWA designed the bereavement room to be a flexible space that caters to a wide variety of events: Drum circles, playtime, group therapy sessions, and more. The community meeting room and atrium spaces can accommodate large donor events as well as caregiver training classes. Secured clinical office space was designed to provide styles of seating and work stations in order to accommodate visiting clinician staff with the space they need to accomplish administrative tasks.
