The Varsity Theater experienced many alterations over the course of its life to-date—from performing theater, to movie theater, then bar and concert venue, and event and venue space. The owner’s desire for the renovation was to see the façade reflect its original configuration and bring the entrance back to its historic grand archway entrance. This alteration along with some storefront modifications quickly shifted the space from dark, dank bar to a bright and glowing gathering space.

The adjacent building, Vriner’s Confectionery, was incorporated into the new space, acting as the prime space for cocktail hours and dining area of the new venue. Both buildings were historic tax credit projects and utilized the federal credits.

Fun fact: The soda bar at Vriner’s made the cover of REO Speedwagon’s album, T.W.O, with all members sidled up for a beverage.
